Things to Do in Biloela QLD

Biloela is a busy town set in the heart of the Callide Valley in central Queensland.  The name 'Biloela' is taken from the local Aboriginal word meaning "cockatoo". (Map of Biloela QLD)

Spirit of the Land Biloela was originally a centre for the surrounding agricultural district, but more recently other industries such as coal mining, meat works, a power station, wheat and sunflower farming have evolved. The cattle industry is thriving - we have the largest cattle population in Queensland.  Biloela's biggest attraction, The Silo, stands more than 28 metres high and houses an array of displays about our primary industry.

Just south of Biloela is Mount Scoria, an unusual basalt formation about 150 metres high with symmetrically shaped rocks which look like a giant staircase. Nearby Callide Dam has a picnic area and is popular with locals and visitors alike with facilities for fishing, water skiing, and other water sports.

Visit Greycliffe Station, re-sited from Rannes outside the town to a location near the Biloela High School, a beautifully preserved slab hut dating back to the 1870s which has been converted into a museum by the local historical society. Further afield visit nearby Kroombit National Park sandstone escarpment with its spectacular views, subtropical rain forest and palm fringed waterfalls. Also there you'll find the final resting place of the Beautiful Betsy, an aircraft which went missing in World War Two.
